My reflection: During this past month of December 2005 has been quite an experience.
I have gotten to play with my family and what I would call a very
important extension to our family, Julie Frias. Julie and I have
been friends for about 4 years and I thoroughly enjoy playing trumpet
with her. Julie and my family all have the same passion - to play
music with all their hearts, and when that happens, magic happens.
We recently played at Olvera St. in downtown Los Angeles, CA. I
was a little skeptical of the mood and reaction of the people on
the street. We were given several different time slots throughout
the course of three days so it ensured us a different crowd of
people each time we played. Each day brought Christmas a little
closer and there was no better way to spend my time leading up
to the day of Jesus birth than to deliver the Christmas spirit
to a world covered in anguish. The most inspirational part of
the series of performances was when we played "O Hanukah." At
the beginning of the song we played random notes on purpose to
attract attention of parents and kids. Then as they were gathering
around we would play some more random notes. Then my dad
would stop us and call all the nearby kids to help us "conduct"
our quartet. Each of the kids got a candy cane to help us
in leading the song. As the kids obliviously conducted us,
sparks of joy and selflessness filled everyones eyes
including mine, as the quartet would play "O Hanukah."
The parents of these kids were excited of their participation
in "conducting" us. This was my most unforgettable experience
during my time at Olvera St. I am looking forward to doing
events like these in the near future. I would like this time
to thank all the supporter of this group.
Thank You and may God Bless You!
